Overall Review:
‘Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh’, directed by Sujoy Ghosh is not a sequel to the first part, but a stand-alone second installment of a series that director is interested in fashioning. Both Vidya and director Sujoy Ghosh return for the sequel, however they bring in new characters and a new plot for the sequel. This time it is not about Vidya Bagchi, but it is rather about Vidya Sinha/Durga Rani Singh. The story revolves around a single mother, whose daughter has been kidnapped by some anonymous person. In her quest to get her daughter back, past must be dug out. Kahaani 2 starts on a very promising note. It’s pacy, gripping and engaging. Technically film is brilliantly executed. Not one frame is wasted in the first half as the set-up is introduced and teased out which will force you to remain stunned and glued to the screen. However its the second half that lets you down with predictable twists and turns, but it’s buoyed by some fantastic performances from Vidya and Arjun. The background music is what gives depth to thrilling scenes. Overall, Kahaani 2 is just a predictable dark thriller ride with predictable twists.

Performance & Technical Review:
The Indian National Award-winning actress, who plays a mother on the run who is accused of murdering and kidnapping of a minor, puts in a compelling performance. Her fear, her angst and her protectiveness towards her daughter is beautifully captured. Arjun Rampal as a middle-level police officer is thoroughly engaging. He’s on Balan’s trail, and his quest to find the truth about her past is played out handsomely. The screenplay is fast paced, background music is haunting and intense that gives us chills in some scenes. Technically film stands brilliant.

PDF Verdict:
Kahaani 2: A Dark Thriller has pacy, gripping and engaging first half but fails to reach the benchmark of its prequel. Watch it just for the performances from lead actors and stylized execution.
