Overall Review:
Helmed by Atul Manjrekar, Fanney Khan is the musical comedy remake of the 2002 Belgian film Everybody’s Famous! Focusing on the bond of the father-daughter duo, films stars Anil Kapoor, Aishrya Rai Bacchan, Rajkumar Rao in lead roles supported by Divya Dutta, Karan Singh Chhabra, Pihu Sand, Anaitha Nair, Girish Kulkarni and Swati Semwal. Film tells the story of a poor man (Anil Kapoor) who is an auto driver and a small-time singer as well. He has a daughter (Pihu Sand) who has weight issues and aspires to become a rockstar someday. In order to fulfill her dream, Anil kidnaps a rockstar which is played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and helping him in this kidnap is Rajkummar Rao. At first film send out beautiful message “You should believe in yourself. Believe in all that you have within yourself because the magic is within you. Believe in a blessed life as life is beautiful, and therefore, experience it and smile with all that you have to give it to live.” Film moves at its steady pace and at times is too melodramatic. Film’s narrative goes slightly out of tune in second half. Anil Kapoor strikes the right balance as a middle class man struggling between dreams and reality. He is the sould of the film. Rajkummar Rao shows his usual flair within a limited scope. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has limited presence and does not make any impact. Divya Datta (as Anil Kapoor’s Wife) fits perfectly as supporting role Being Musical film, songs are unimpressive and so is the music of the film. S Tirru’s cinematography is quite effective. Overall, film lackss a big heart and soul.

PDF Verdict:
A weak script with some directing inconsistencies and lots of loose ends, makes this musical star-studded remake – A Forgettable Affair.
