Overall Review:
Badhaai Ho, a quirky comedy directed by Amit Sharma (of Tevar Fame) stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra in lead roles. Besides lead roles film also stars Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao. The film is a situational comedy. Akshat Ghildial amd Shantanu Srivastava’s story is very simple and relatable. Nakul (Ayushmann Khurrana) has a sweet girlfriend in Renne (Sanya Malhotra) and a pretty ordinary brother in Gullar. Father-cum-Gulzar Jitendra aka Jeetu (Gajraj Rao) impregnates his wife Priyamvada and that’s where Nakul starts ignoring his colleagues, friends as well as Renne. The story revolves around the 9 months of pregnancy and how the family faces issues from the so-called developing society. While the first half focuses on the couple and situaltional humour, It’s the second half that falls a little short – one liners drags at places and story becomes little monotonous. However, the performances makes up the second half and covers all the share of flaws. The aged couple (Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao) brings in a refreshing concept of romance on screen. The on-screen romance between the parents, replete with 80s and 90s romantic songs playing in the background, is absolutely endearing. Ayushmann Khurrana delivers a brilliant performance and his act is spot on. He is natural and effortlessly funny. Although, a very limited screen time, lead actress Sanya Malhotra has done a laudable job and looks beautiful. Neena Gupta is excellent in her portrayal of the unsettled mother and is the soul of the film. She puts up a very convincing and lovable performance.Gajraj Rao steals every scene that he’s a part of. He is like the second hero of the film and justifies his role with full responsibility. Music by Tanishk Bagchi is top-grade and catchy. Abhishek Arora’s background score however is entertaining and has a naughty vibe which suits the film. Script written bym Akshat Ghildial, Jyoti Kapoor and Shantanu Srivastava leaves the positive impact. However, it has its flaw in second half as it becomes repetitive at times. All said and done, Badhaai Ho is a clean family entertainer. A quirky comedy that will engage you thoroughly, while making a social statement.

PDF Verdict:
After the success of Andhadhun, Ayushmann Khurrana returns with a clean family entertainer – Badhaai Ho. Film is a comical and emotional roller coaster ride. The situational humour is complimented perfectly by striking performances from Gajraj Rao, Neena Gupta and Ayushmann Khurrana. Despite of shortcomings (Story/Script), the detailed writing, the finesse of Sharma’s direction and some unforgettable performances, make this film an absolute winner.
